Every tooth is comprised of three layers, from the outside there is the enamel, the dentin and then the pulp chamber. The pulp chamber is a space where the nerve and live tissue are located. If for any reason the pulp space is exposed the tissue becomes contaminated and eventually infected. Pulp exposure can be caused by many reasons, decay or a fractured tooth are some examples. Root Canal treatment is the process or treating the pulp space and removing the infected nerve, contaminated tissue and blood vessels. Once the pulp space is empty it is disinfected and filled. After the root canal is completed a crown is fabricated. This protects the tooth from becoming brittle and breaking down the road.
